How do you fix duplicate inquiries on your credit report?

My credit report shows duplicate credit inquiries, made on the same day, from a couple of creditors. This is obviously a mistake and these inquiries should only show once.

I wrote TransUnion and they asked me to write the people making the inquiry to fix the mistake. I thought it was TransUnion's responsibility to fix mistakes in my report! Of course I will write the creditors, but am I wrong to think that TU should be the one fixing this? Whose responsibility is it to fix these types of mistakes?

The CRA's will not investigate anything with inquiries. You will have to write to the person who made the inquiry and ask them about it. Provide a copy of the report to show them what the problem is. If indeed there is an error, they should offer to correct it. 6 inquiries in within 90 days will drop your score more than just a couple of points.

Inquiries make a small ding unless you have a lot of inquiries in a short time. I don't think most people bother to even look at the inquiries.

You should write the companies who made the duplicate inquiries. Chances are they actually did make more than one inquiry on the same day. Thus it is hardly the credit bureaus responsibility to fix.

Were these car loans or mortgage companies by any chance? If so, multiple inquiries only count as one and really aren't hurting your score.

Contact the company that reported these duplicate inquiries and to the Credit Reporting Agency. Make copies of everything you write to both parties.

Good luck!

You can have those removed as well as other mishaps by using properly worded dispute letters and other tips. My mom used info from www.creditrepair101site.com to raise her score 45 points.
