Question:
Can my credit report be pulled without my consent?

About 1 month ago I requested a credit line increase from my credit card company. I completed an online credit line increase request. Nothing online said anything about the possibility of my credit report being pulled. The next day, representatives from the credit card company called me to get more information about my request and confirm my income. The representative never said anything about my credit report.
Now, after the fact, I found out from Experian that my credit report was pulled by the credit card company. I am worried about the affect this has on my credit score and I would not have made the request if I had known my report would be pulled.

I realize that it may seem like common sense that they would pull my report, but both of my other credit card companies have approved multiple credit line increases solely based on my income information and my history with that company.

So my question is, did they have the right to pull my report? and if not, is there anything I can do about it?

When we apply for credit of any kind and especially with a card company

we enter into a contract with that company to allow them periodically to check our credit. It might be hard to find but i''ll bet it is in the fine print i the dis-closer they sent you. I know it is in mine.. But don't be to concerned because when they check it may (cost) a few like 3 or 4 points on your score but it wil come right back usually within no more then 90 days..I know this is not what you want to hear but i deal with this all the time..you will be ok..

Yes, it does seem like common sense that whenever you apply for credit or a credit line increase, the lender would want to see your credit report. Somewhere in the paper you signed it states that you agree to have your credit report pulled.

Oh, and by the way, anyone with whom you already have credit (or a credit card) can pull your report anytime they feel like checking up on your credit.

Soft pulls don't hurt your credit score. The pull to increase your line of credit may.

When you requested the credit line increase, you also consented to have your credit reports pulled.

Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do about it.

It IS common sense to expect your credit record to be checked. You are requesting new credit.

a 1 time pull is no big deal.

do not ask for additional credit if you do not want them to pull credit.
