Your information is obtained without your consent typically involving your:

* Name

* Address

* Date of Birth

* Social Security Number

Identity thieves then take over your financial accounts and apply for credit cards, buy cars and even home equity loans.

Additionally, identity thieves have been reported as opening up wireless phone accounts, filing false medical claims and driving accident reports using the stolen personal information.

All of which may take minimally months (if not years), time away from work, unnecessary legal expenses to clear your credit and non-credit (DMV, Medical, Criminal/Public) records from the false and fraudulent activity committed by the identity thief.
